PRESS RELEASE: February 11, 2016 Does buying your partner something for Valentine’s Day increase your chances of getting lucky? A new independent Insightrix Research online poll conducted with a random selection of Saskatchewan residents suggests that there is a curious correlation between those who plan to buy a gift for their partner and those who are planning for a roll in the hay on February 14th. Specifically, 31% of Saskatchewan residents admit they plan to have sex specifically because it’s Valentine’s Day. Among those planning to buy a gift for their partner, nearly one half (46%) are hoping to make nookie compared to only 12% among those who do not plan on buying a gift. Those less likely to buy a gift (and therefore less likely to have a romantic interlude) tend to be older and have been in a relationship for longer periods of time, perhaps suggesting the flame may have diminished over time. Although 43% of Saskatchewan residents do not plan on buying their partner anything this coming February 14th, there still are four more days to change their minds! Carnal connections aside, there still may be some surprises for both women and men in Saskatchewan. The poll finds that nearly two thirds of men (64%) plan to give their partner a gift this Valentine’s Day while less than one half of women (44%) expect to receive one. Having said this, both genders have set their expectations low for receiving a gift, as compared to their intentions of purchasing one for their partner. Popular gifts people are planning on giving or expecting to receive include a romantic meal, chocolates, a greeting card and/or flowers. Intentions of treating someone to a romantic meal are nearly twice as high as the expectation of receiving one, suggesting that an unexpected candlelit meal may be in store in the near future. However, there is also the potential for disappointments this coming long weekend. Roughly one half of women expect to receive flowers, while only four in ten men plan to dote on their sweetheart with such blossoms. Take note men! In general, many men may have surprises coming their way considering their expectations fall below women’s purchase intentions for a romantic meal, chocolates or a greeting card. As noted earlier, three in ten (31%) Saskatchewan residents say they expect to get lucky this Valentine’s Day while 39% say that it is not in the cards. The rest (29%) are too bashful to say one way or the other. Are Saskatchewan residents more romantic than our neighbours to the east? Based on results from a similar poll conducted in Manitoba, the answer is yes! Only 15% of Saskatchewan residents express dislike for Valentine’s Day, calling it just “a Hallmark holiday”, whereas twice as many Manitobans feel the same way (29%). Further, slightly more Saskatchewan residents plan to buy gifts for their significant other this upcoming Sunday than in Manitoba (57% vs. 50%, respectively). Similarly, expectations of receiving a gift are higher in our province (44% vs. 36%, respectively). This again suggests there is a correlation between gift giving and “doing it” because more Saskatchewan residents are also likely to say they’ll be having sex this weekend than our Blue Bomber neighbours (31% and 27%). According to a new independent Holiday Shopping Forecast poll conducted by Insightrix Research Inc., Santa Claus will be visiting Saskatchewan this Christmas as 93% of residents plan on buying gifts this holiday season. Kids of Saskatchewan will be happy to hear that households with one or more children (98%) are more likely to say that they intend to buy gifts compared to households without children (90%). Women are ahead of the curve in terms of their holiday shopping as 25% indicate that they have already purchased all their gifts, relative to 18% of men. However, there is still plenty of time to shop as 42% of residents who plan to buy, say they will likely complete their shopping in the first half of December. Interesting to note is that most do not plan on taking advantage of Black Friday or Cyber Monday deals as only 8% plan to buy gifts on these days. For the holiday shopping forecast, gifts do not come cheap as just under one half (46%) plan to spend more than $500 on gifts this year, which is similar to planned spending in 2014. You still have time to get off that naughty list, because Santa Claus is indeed coming to town! November 17th, 2015: A new independent Insightrix Research online poll finds voter intentions have shifted slightly. The SaskParty maintains its lead, so far. Presently 54% of decided Saskatchewan voters state they would cast their ballot for the SaskParty, while 25% would vote for the provincial NDP and 14% for the Liberals, if a provincial election were held today. Another 6% would vote for either the Green Party or another party. This marks a strong increase for the provincial Liberals, likely due in part to the federal election outcome. This increase results in a downward shift for both the SaskParty and the NDP. Demographically, younger residents (aged 18 to 34) are more likely to say they would vote Liberal (22%) than are their older counterparts (13% among 35-54 year olds and 9% among those aged 55 years or older). Similarly, females are more likely to say they will vote for the Liberals than are males (17% vs. 12%), while males are more likely to say they will vote for the SaskParty (61% vs. 48% among females). Regionally, support for the NDP is strongest in Regina (34%) and Saskatoon (30%), vs. 20% in the rest of the province, while in contrast, support for the SaskParty is strongest outside of the two major cities (46% in Regina, 47% in Saskatoon and 60% in the rest of the province). A new independent Insightrix Research poll reveals what Prince Albert residents think about the state of the local economy, the development of the area north of the North Saskatchewan River, the addition of a new bridge and hospital, and where they most often buy their groceries. Economic Satisfaction According to the Insightrix Research survey, 69% of residents are satisfied with the economic development in Prince Albert over the past few years, with 56% being somewhat satisfied and 13% very satisfied. Almost one-third (31%) say they are dissatisfied, with 19% saying they are somewhat dissatisfied and 12% saying they are very dissatisfied. When asked who needs to take the lead in creating the best environment and conditions for economic development in Prince Albert, 58% respondents say everyone needs to work together to grow the economy. Another 18% of residents indicated city administration should be in charge, 9% say provincial administration, 7% indicate private enterprise, and 2% of residents provided other responses. The remaining 6% were not sure who should take the lead. Northern Development When it comes to the development of the land north of the North Saskatchewan River, 81% of residents say it is important, with 38% indicating it is extremely important and 43% indicating it is somewhat important. Less than one in five (19%) say developing the area is not important, with 14% saying it is not very important, and 5% saying it is not at all important. Residents who think development is important were asked what kind of development they would like to see in the area directly north of the river. They were able to indicate more than one response. Of those who think development is important, 56% indicate the land should be used for recreational development, 55% say it should be turned into industrial land, and 47% indicate the land should be developed for residential usage. Ten percent (10%) of respondents indicated other purposes and 7% were not sure what the land should be used for. A Second Bridge Insightrix asked residents how they would rate the importance of Prince Albert having a second bridge. Overall, 97% of residents say it is important, with 86% of respondents indicating it is extremely important, and 11% saying it is somewhat important. Only 2% indicate a second bridge is not very important, and 1% say it is not at all important. Paging All Doctors Over three-quarters (79%) of residents agree Prince Albert needs a new hospital, with 46% indicating they strongly agree and 33% indicating they somewhat agree. Just over one-fifth of residents (21%) disagree, with 15% indicating they somewhat disagree, and 6% indicating they strongly disagree. Out of those who say Prince Albert is in need of a new hospital, the top two reasons cited for needing a new hospital are additional bed space needed (30%), and to cut down on long wait times (25%). Clean-up on Aisle Nine! Finally, Insightrix asked respondents where they buy their groceries most often. Almost half (44%) indicate they most often shop at Superstore, while 21% say they shop at Safeway. Less than one in ten (8%) residents shop at Walmart for their groceries and 14% get their groceries from Co-op. Another 3% of those surveyed say they shop at Independent, and 10% selected ‘Other’. Insightrix Successfully Predicts Popular Federal Election Vote in Saskatchewan October 20th, 2015 A comparison of the popular vote in Saskatchewan, from the Federal Election held yesterday, closely matches Insightrix Research’s predictions based on an independent online poll conducted October 6 to 8, 2015. Nearly two weeks before the Federal Election, Insightrix predicted that the Conservatives would bring in 44% of the popular vote while the NDP would achieve 27%, the Liberals 24%, and the Green Party 4% of the vote. Based on popular vote figures published by Elections Canada this morning, the actual popular vote numbers line up very closely with the Insightrix Research poll predictions. The Insightrix poll also aligns very closely with the popular vote from the Federal Election in Saskatoon with a maximum of a three point variance for any one party. Direct comparisons between the poll and Election Day results in Regina cannot be made because the Regina – Qu’Appelle riding comprises a large rural area. Conservatives Continue to Lead in Saskatchewan among Decided Voters in Upcoming Federal Election October 14th, 2015 A new independent Insightrix Research online poll finds some shifts in Saskatchewan “decided voter” intentions between August, 2015 and mid-October. Presently, 44% of decided Saskatchewan voters state they intend to cast their ballot for the Conservative Party of Canada, up from 39% in a similar Insightrix poll conducted in August, while plans of voting for Canada’s NDP has fallen from 35% to 27% over the same time period. The Liberals have picked up support by three points since August, presently sitting at 24% while the Green Party of Canada holds relatively steady at 4%. The remaining 1% indicate they will vote for a different party. Regionally, the Liberals have taken a commanding lead in Regina over the past two months, emerging as the frontrunner, when in August, they and the Conservatives were tied. In contrast, the Conservatives now lead in Saskatoon by a modest margin (36%, up from 32%), but are closely followed by the NDP which have sustained some losses in voter intentions since August (32%, down from 39%). Despite trailing the other two major parties, the Liberals have also made a small gain in Saskatoon since August (up four points to 27%). Intentions of voting for the Conservatives have surged in the remaining regions of the province (presently 54% of decided voters, up from 43%), with the greatest gains noted in the southern and central parts of Saskatchewan, with a corresponding loss for the NDP. By age, Conservative voting intentions have risen most among middle aged Saskatchewan voters (ages 35-54 years, presently 50%, up from 40% in August). Similarly, the Conservatives have gained ground among females these past two months with a current 41% intending to vote for the party, up from 34% in August. For the NDP, greatest losses in voter support are among younger voters aged 18 to 34 (presently 28%, down from 40%) who have largely turned to support the Liberals. Fully 93% of Saskatchewan residents say they intend to vote in the upcoming Federal Election on October 19th, 2015. Only 6% of those who intend to vote are currently unsure of the party for which they will vote. In the August poll, 10% were undecided. Presently, 39% of decided Saskatchewan voters state they would cast their ballot for the Conservative Party of Canada, while a similar proportion (35%) would vote for Canada’s NDP, if the federal election were held today. Saskatoon, Sask. (July 08, 2015) – According to an independent poll conducted by Insightrix Research among 2,700 sports fans across Canada to determine Canada's top sports brands, the Habs top all other Canadian professional sports teams in regards to brand strength; the Leafs and Riders come second and third. For the second year in a row, Insightrix calculated a Sports Brand Equity Index based on five key metrics: first team that comes to mind, respect for the team, as well as perception of the most loyal fans, team popularity and stadium/arena atmosphere. Each of these attributes has an assigned weight based on their impact on the team’s brand equity. In addition this year a predictive element was added to the survey. Not only were fans asked about their personal opinion, but they were also asked to predict the outcome of the survey for each key metric. This gives a more accurate measurement of the brand’s strength. Despite a 48-year Cup drought and not winning any titles in 15 years, the Maple Leafs’ brand ranks second overall after the Habs, although they have lost a bit of ground compared to last year. “It’s amazing to see a team that has not won anything in such a long time come in second across Canada. Winning helps, but it’s not the only factor a team’s brand should focus on” commented Mario Caceres, Senior Research Executive with Insightrix. The Riders are a branding phenomenon worth noting. They are ranked number three across all of Canada despite Saskatchewan only accounting for 3% of the nation’s overall population. The study was conducted among 2,700 sports fans, 300 in each of the following cities: Calgary, Edmonton, Hamilton, Montreal, Ottawa, Regina, Toronto, Vancouver, and Winnipeg. Results were weighted to accurately represent the population in each metro area as a percentage of the national population. Teams from all five major leagues (CFL, MLB, MLS, NBA, and NHL) were included. The survey was fielded between April 21st and May 5th, 2015. Below is the list of the top sports brands with the strongest brand equity across the nation. The top of the list remains fairly consistent to last year, with changes occurring further down. 1. A new independent Insightrix Research poll reveals what residents think about the size of The Battlefords Union Hospital parking lot, the development of a safe path between Battleford and North Battleford, and whether the River Valley should undergo recreational development. Too cramped? According to the Insightrix Research survey, 81% of residents would like to see the Battlefords Union Hospital parking lot expanded to accommodate more parking. Of those surveyed, women (86%) are more interested than men (74%) in expanding the lot at the hospital. The public and hospital staff currently share a single parking lot.  Insightrix asked residents if they would prefer to have a separate parking lot built for staff to make room for additional public parking spaces. Overall, 78% of residents were in favour of building a separate lot for staff, while 13% disagreed. The remaining 9% were not sure or had no opinion. A safer way Currently, there is no safe route for cyclists and pedestrians travelling between North Battleford and Battleford.  Residents were asked if a safe trail was established, would they use it.  Nearly two thirds (61%) indicate they would not use the trail, while 39% say they would. Younger respondents are more likely to say they would use the trail. Almost three quarters (74%) of those aged 18-34 indicate they would use the trail, compared to half (52%) of those aged 35-54, and 22% of those aged 55 and older saying they would use the trail. Insightrix also asked those who say they would use the trail, how often they would use it. Overall 5% say they would use the path every day, although almost half (46%) say they would use it between one and three times per week and another 45% say they would use the path once a month or less. The remaining 4% aren’t sure how often they would utilize it. Recreational development Insightrix asked residents if they believe more recreational development should be done in River Valley in order to boost the economy. Almost two-thirds (65%) of residents are in favour of increasing recreational development. Younger residents are more likely to believe recreation development should be done in River Valley with 83% of residents aged 18-34 and 80% of residents aged 35-54 indicating development should be done compared to 50% of residents aged 55 and older. Of those who support increased recreational development, 43% would like to see more hiking and cycling paths, 17% would like to see the construction of parks and playgrounds, and 15% would like to see additional sport facilities, such as basketball and tennis courts. Research Details A total of 352 randomly selected Battleford residents participated in the research study, which was conducted over the telephone (including both landlines and mobile phones) from May 19th to June 2nd, 2015. A new independent Insightrix Research poll reveals what Swift Current residents like most about their city, the most important issues facing their city, and resident shopping habits. Life in Swift Current According to the Insightrix Research survey, two out of five Swift Current residents rank the size of the city as the aspect they like most about living there. The proportion is highest among young adults between the ages of 18 and 34, with roughly half (49%) stating they like the size of their city the most. Following the size of the city, 23% like living in Swift Current because of the people and amenities (17%). Views on city issues Insightrix asked residents to state what they consider to be the most important issue facing Swift Current. Most commonly, 20% mentioned infrastructure issues, such as road conditions and repairs. Next to infrastructure, health care was mentioned by 6% of residents. Residents were then asked about their views on the municipal tax increase. Overall, 65% are at least somewhat concerned about the increase. Those with an annual income of less than $30,000 are the most concerned group, with 31% saying they are very concerned about the tax increase. Shopping within the city Insightrix also asked residents about their views on shopping in Swift Current. Overall, more than half (56%) agree that there is not enough quality shopping with women (62%) being more likely than men (47%) to agree. Out-of-town shopping Nearly two thirds (64%) go out-of-town for shopping and most purchase clothing (77%) followed by groceries (37%). The majority of women (80%) and men (67%) are looking to expand their wardrobe when they shop out-of-town. Research Details A total of 358 randomly selected Swift Current residents participated in the research study, which was conducted over the telephone (including both landlines and mobile phones) from April 20th to May 1st, 2015. Quotas were set by age and gender to match the city’s population.  The results for this study are considered accurate within ± 5.12 percentage points 19 times out of 20.
